ICEM Kuching Media Festival 2023


The Registration ended on August 25, 2023.

INTRODUCTION

The Media Festival is going to be held on 11 to 13 September 2023 in conjunction with the International Council for Education Media (ICEM) conference 2023 at Kuching, Sarawak. A Film and Photography Competition has been organized in conjunction with the festival. The theme for the film category is Artificial Intelligence and Me and photography is Today in the World of Tomorrow. Entries for this competition are FREE.  The registration fee to participate in the 11-13 September 2023 Media Festival Program is at RM500 per person.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

  1. The competition is open to all schools and higher learning institutions students.
  2. Category of Competition:
    1. Photography – Individual
    1. Film – Group (2-3 pax)
  • Themes: 
    • Photography – Today in The World of Tomorrow
    • Film – Artificial Intelligence and Me
  • The competition participation fee is FREE.
  • Participation registration is open until 25 August 2023.
  • Submissions without filling in the registration form would not be accepted.
  • Media Products Submission (Film/Photography) is open until 30 August 2023.
  • The winners will be announced on 13 September 2023.

Submission Requirements 

  1. Film
    1. Videos must be in English.
    1. Videos should be between 3 to 4 minutes in length.
    1. Video Format: MOV or MP4
    1. Audio quality must be clear. On-site audio feed or narration is allowed.
    1. All information presented in the video must be cited, crediting the source. Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification. 
    1. Image resolution: above 1920×1080
    1. Choices of production: Animation Clip, Screenplay, Documentary
    1. NO Footage Material allowed.
    1. Other Criteria:

•          Animation: Combining fabric and style?

•          Screenplay: arc of suspense, coherence in content,

•           Camera: Guided tour, image section, camera movements in the sense of dramaturgy, locations

•          Editing: Editing in the sense of dramaturgy, rhythm, montage

•          Sound: music, linguistic design

  1. Photography
    1. Categories: Nature, People, Architecture, Macro, Technical Instruments
    1. Maximum 3 photos
    1. Photo Format: PNG
    1. Resolution: no less than 300 DPI,    4,961 x 7,016 pixels (A2)
    1. Size: A2 – 420 x 594mm (16.5 x 23 inches)
    1. Other Criteria:
  2. Technique: exposure, sharpness, depth
  3. Is the photo divided by axes, curves, or partial surfaces?
  4. Is a composition pattern recognizable? (Axes, Curves, Surfaces, Contrast)
  5. Is the viewer’s gaze guided? (Light, Contrast)
  6. Does the photo broaden the view of the topic? (Colour Scheme, Contrast)
  1. By submitting a video or photo(s) to the competition, participants confirm that they are the legal and/or beneficial owner or otherwise have the intellectual property rights to submit such materials; and, therefore, warrant that they have obtained permission to include copyrighted materials, i.e. music, soundtrack, audio, graphic, images, and/or video clips in their entry. Each video and photograph, as well as any portion thereof, must not violate any laws or the rights of a third party.
  2. Videos or photos must not have previously been entered into any other competitions/competitions/film festivals.
  3. Videos that are lewd, obscene, sexually explicit, pornographic, disparaging, defamatory, libellous, illegal, offensive, or otherwise contain inappropriate content or objectionable material should not be submitted, and the Organizer reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to remove or demand that participants remove such videos at any time.
  4. By submitting videos or photos, participants grant the Organizer exclusive copyright rights to use the submitted videos or material for promotional or commercial purposes worldwide.
  5. All costs and expenses associated with the production of the video and photos, as well as the competitors’ participation, must be borne entirely by the participants.

  • The decision of the Organizer is final, conclusive, and binding. No additional appeals, inquiries, or correspondence will be accepted.

Eligible Winners 

  • To be eligible to win the competition, participants must fully comply with the Terms and Conditions as stated herein.
  • Videos and photos that are incomplete, as well as failure to comply with any or all the Terms and Conditions, will result in immediate disqualification from the competition. Participants are eligible to win the competition if they adhere to the terms and conditions.

General Terms

  • The Organizer will not be responsible or liable for any loss in connection with the competition, including, but not limited to, the following:
    • Any problem, loss, or damage of any kind suffered by any party as a result of any delay and/or failure in receiving and sending the video as a result of any network, communication, or system error, interruption, or failure experienced by the participating internet line and/or as a result of participation in the competition or the downloading of any materials. In the event of such an error, interruption, or failure, the Organizer shall not be liable or responsible for any Eligible Participant’s inability to participate in the competition.
    • Any problems, expenses, damages, losses, suits, and claims of whatsoever nature against any participants that may arise from or in connection with their participation in the competition and/or display of their videos.
    • Any errors (including error in the notification of competition winners), omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, internet line failure, theft, destruction of, or unauthorized access to videos, or unresponsive computer, whether arising during operation or transmission because of server functions, virus, bugs or other causes outside its control.
    • By participating in this competition, participants agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Organizer from and against any litigation, claims, losses, damages, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, that may arise out of or in connection with the competition.
  • By joining, participants agree to appear on the internet in videos, images, and write-ups that the Organizer may use in advertising (any form of media) or other materials. Participants shall not be entitled to any compensation for such use or re-use; and acknowledge that all copyright, including the right to reproduce the video or image, shall be owned entirely by the Organizer; and to release and discharge the Organizer from any claims arising from the Organizer’s use of the video or image.
  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond the Organizer’s reasonable control, the Organizer reserves the right to cancel, alter, postpone, or delay the competition.
  • By entering this competition, all participants hereby warrant that all personal information provided is true, correct, accurate, and complete. They have read and understood the Terms & Conditions of this competition and agree to be bound by them unreservedly.
  • Without prior notice, the Organizer reserves the right to change, amend, delete, or add to any of these Terms and Conditions, and such changes shall bind participants.
  • Any matter not covered under the Terms and Conditions herein shall be determined solely by the Organizer.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, cancellation, termination, suspension, or extension of the competition, the participants shall not be entitled to any claims or compensations whatsoever against the competition Organizer for any loss or damages suffered, sustained, or incurred by the Participant as a direct or indirect result of cancellation, termination, suspension, or extension of the competition.
